The Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program was initiated by the National
Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) to improve the identification and
authentication of Federal employees and contractors accessing Federal facilities
and information systems. GoldKey works as a powerful smart card with PIV
interoperability built into the token.
Next Steps
Advanced PIV Capability
With third party PIV software, GoldKey can be used to store additional identification data such as a facial
image, fingerprints, and printed information about the card holder. GoldKey also supports NIST Special
Publication 800-73-3 and delivers advanced functionality such as iris images, twenty additional certificate slots,
and support for ECC cryptography.
GoldKey is a reliable USB smart
card with built-in compatibility
for PIV standards including
authentication, encryption and
data signing.
Built-in PIV Support
Basic functionality and support for PIV cards and tokens already exists in Microsoft Windows®, Mac OS® X,
and many Linux® distributions. Because GoldKey provides the PIV Card Command Interface defined in NIST
Special Publication 800-73, it can be used as a reliable USB smart card for these systems. This allows RSA
certificates within the token to be used for authentication, data encryption, and data signing without installing
any additional software.
GoldKey vs. Traditional Smart Card
Improved Performance - GoldKeys run noticeably faster during certain cryptographic operations than
traditional smart cards.
Convenient - GoldKey is one of the smallest security tokens on the market and can easily fit on a key
chain. GoldKey also eliminates the need for an external smart card reader, making it more flexible and
convenient.
Durable - From its stainless steel case to its waterproof epoxy, GoldKey is more durable than your
everyday USB token. Inside, the GoldKey is filled with an industrial grade epoxy that not only seals the
internal circuitry water tight, but deters tampering and provides added strength.
Extended Life - GoldKey does not require a battery for power. Instead, it draws power from the USB port
so it can last longer in the field.
